White fillings, or composite fillings, are a dental treatment used to repair cavities or minor chips by filling the decayed area. Made from a durable blend of glass, ceramic, and resin, they provide strength comparable to metal fillings, while offering a more natural appearance—ideal for visible areas like the front teeth. Custom-matched to your tooth’s translucency and shade, white fillings support the tooth’s structure and ensure a discreet, seamless finish.
Aesthetic: Unlike traditional metal amalgam fillings, the primary advantage of modern white composite fillings is the improved aesthetic. Patients can enjoy a more natural look with composite material that can be created to more closely match teeth colours.
Strength: White composite fillings used to be a less durable option than silver fillings, however, modern materials that are used in white fillings now offer a stronger adhesion to the tooth and an increased chance of protection against further fracturing.
Before any dental treatments are carried out, you will meet the team for a consultation, including a radiography and a clinical exam. At this point, we will discuss your options and how a white filling may provide a solution to repair cavities, chips or cracks in your teeth. Once the treatment plan has been agreed upon, the appointment for your treatment will be scheduled.
During this appointment, will numb the area with local anaesthesia to ensure a smooth experience throughout. We will then examine the decayed area and remove any damaged tissue from your tooth before filling the space with a composite material that closely matches the colour of your teeth.
A blue light will be used to harden the material if a resin composite is used, before polishing the tooth into the desired shape and to smooth any rough edges. Our team will ask you to test your bite to ensure it feels normal before your treatment is completed.
At Vermilion, patient care is our top priority. We understand that many people feel anxious about visiting the dentist, so we treat each patient individually, ensuring a relaxed and comfortable experience. If needed, we offer sedation options to ensure a stress-free experience.
Our white composite fillings present an alternative to traditional fillings of the past. Metal fillings are no longer the only option to tackle tooth decay – your natural teeth can be preserved with white fillings that closely match the shape and shade of existing teeth, without the need for unsightly silver fillings.
If you are a dentist looking to refer a patient for high-quality composite fillings, Vermilion is here to help. Our expert team provides exceptional care and tailored treatment plans to restore and enhance smiles.
For patients interested in white fillings, speak to your dentist about a referral to Vermilion. We will work closely with your dentist to ensure you receive the best possible treatment.
Utilising a white filing option to tackle decay or damage means that modern, durable materials can be used that present a more long-lasting approach than silver amalgam fillings.
To prevent decay from returning or any issues around your new white filling, we encourage high standards of mouth hygiene to be maintained following your treatment, including brushing at least twice a day and returning for regular check-ups with your dentist.
In general, we do not encourage replacing traditional amalgam fillings with new white composite fillings until the old ones need replacing to minimise the need for any unnecessary treatments or trauma for the area. If you are keen to explore a potential replacement, please speak to our team for more information and recommendations.
If you are unable to attend, please contact our reception team to reschedule. We require 48 hours’ notice to cancel or re-arrange appointments. Failure to attend or failing to provide 48 hours notice when cancelling appointments will result in you being charged a fee of up to 100% depending on treatment fee or based on appointment length at £350 per hour, whichever is less.
We will always take exceptional circumstances into account if the unforeseen happens and you have reason to cancel an appointment at short notice.
